Robert R. Ackerman
Robert Ackerman currently sits on the Boards of Inertia Beverage Group, DriverSide, Solera Networks, and PureWave. Prior investments include LGC Wireless, IronPort Systems (CSCO), iBeam Broadcasting (NASDAQ), Comparnet (MSFT), StepUp Commerce (INTU) and Classroom Connect (ENL). Mr. Ackerman uses his more than fifteen years of general management, venture capital and strategic mergers and acquisition advisory experience to support the firm's technology start-up companies. Prior to Allegis Capital, his operating experience includes, CEO of UniSoft Systems (a world leading UNIX systems house operating in the U.S., Europe and Asia) and a founder and Chairman of InfoGear Technology Corporation (the first internet appliance company; acquired by CISCO in 2000). Mr. Ackerman was a member of the 2007 Forbes MIDAS list of the world's leading venture and technology leaders. He has been a keynote speaker at the Investors Business Forum (IBF) on Corporate Venturing & Strategic Investing and has spoken numerous times at the Red Herring and Montgomery Investment Banking Conferences. Mr. Ackerman was also a member of the Board of Directors of The Entrepreneur's Foundation, a non-profit organization in Silicon Valley that develops and facilitates community support programs within the high-technology community. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco-based Asian Art Museum. Mr. Ackerman has a BS degree in Computer Science.
Ron Heinz
With more than two decades in the technology business, Mr. Heinz is a Managing Director of Canopy Ventures. He oversees corporate investments and strategic direction for the early-stage venture capital firm. Prior to assuming his current role, Mr. Heinz was the CEO of Helius, Inc., a Canopy portfolio company. From 2000 to 2003, he was the CEO of Phobos Corporation, a Utah-based technology company that was acquired by SonicWALL of Sunnyvale, California (SNWL). Post-merger, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Sr. Vice President at SonicWALL
Prior to Phobos, Mr. Heinz spent 12 years at Novell Inc., serving as a Corporate Officer and Sr. Vice President his last four years. Prior to Novell, Mr. Heinz was employed at Xerox. He received a Bachelor of Science in finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and an MBA in finance from American University. He has also participated in postgraduate work at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
George Hoyem
Mr. Hoyem is a Managing Partner with Blueprint Ventures and brings more than 20 years of entrepreneurial, operations and venture experience in high technology companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Verifone, numerous portfolio companies and his own start-up software company. He has backed, supported and served on the boards of over a dozen emerging technology companies. Mr. Hoyem's current investment focus includes software, security and IT infrastructure companies. He holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in computer science from Western Michigan University.
Steve Shillingford
Mr. Shillingford is the president and CEO of Solera Networks. He has more than 15 years of experience in sales, operations and management in technology companies. He joined Solera Networks in early 2007 from Oracle Corporation, where he was responsible for some of the largest deals in the company during his tenure, all in the Rocky Mountain region. He was named top salesperson within Oracle in 2005 for his success in growing the company's presence in the region and his consistently strong performance in meeting revenue objectives. Prior to joining Oracle in 2000, Steve had held several sales and operational management positions at Novell over the preceding seven years. Steve holds a B.S. with honors in Psychology from Brigham Young University.
Spencer Tall
Spencer Tall serves on the Boards of IMVU, Allegiance, Solera Networks, and Symplified. Prior investments include E.piphany (EPNY), Web TV (acquired by MSFT), and One Touch Systems (acquired by Hughes Satellite). Mr. Tall is renowned for his ability to leverage marketing, distribution and sales opportunities especially in Asia for his portfolio companies. Prior to Allegis Capital, Mr. Tall was a co-founder and General Partner with APV Technology Partners for three funds over 10 years. In addition, Mr. Tall is a co-founder of Asia Pacific Ventures LLC, a consulting and advisory service firm where, over a 13-year period, he assisted more than 50 technology companies in their Asia expansion plans. This included technology licensing, fund raising and distribution arrangements. Mr. Tall has acted as a strategic advisor to global companies including Motorola, Sony, Fujitsu, Samsung, Canon, TDK, and Dacom. Prior to founding APV, Mr. Tall, fluent in Japanese, oversaw U.S. sales operations for Marubun Corporation, a Japan-based billion dollar components trading company. He also worked as a sales manager with GRE America, Inc., a Japanese contract manufacturer, serving U.S. corporations' outsourcing efforts. Mr. Tall has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Japanese from BYU.
Brandon Tidwell
Mr. Tidwell is a Managing Director of Canopy Ventures and has an extensive background in venture capital, corporate and securities law. Mr. Tidwell has counseled numerous entrepreneurs throughout the startup company process, first as an associate in the Silicon Valley office of Latham & Watkins and more recently with Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll in Salt Lake City. Having advised on numerous venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions and public offerings in his career, Mr. Tidwell brings a broad base of startup experience to bear on behalf of Canopy's portfolio companies. He has a BS and Masters degree in accounting from Brigham Young University and a JD from Columbia University.
Scott Weiss
Mr. Weiss has served at many notable technology firms including Cisco, IronPort, Hotmail, EDS and idealab!. He was one of the early members of the Hotmail team, where he was responsible for all revenue generating business development activities and partnerships. Weiss stayed with the company after the acquisition by Microsoft and led the MSN business development unit. After leaving MSN, Weiss went on to pursue new opportunities at idealab!, he met Scott Banister, and together the two developed the technology that eventually became IronPort.
As CEO of IronPort Systems, Weiss established the company as the leader in email security and directed the company through its successful acquisition by Cisco. After the acquisition, Weiss advanced quickly inside Cisco to lead Cisco's Security Technology Business Unit, developing the vision and strategy for integrating reputation-based security into existing products.
