Technical Writer and Documentation Specialist
The position of Technical Writer and Documentation Specialist is and will continue to be an integral part of our company. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, small business environment where individual employees take ownership. The Technical Writer and Documentation Specialist will take a leading role in presenting the company and its products to customers, press and analysts through documentation and other technical documents. The Technical Writer will act as the lead for all documentation tasks for the company. These tasks include project technical support documentation, proposal support documentation, and process-related documentation.
- Coordinate production of project technical documentation, including creating and monitoring documentation schedules in conjunction with the overall project schedule
- Coordinate document peer reviews
- Assist content owners with placement of content into technical documentation
- Develop and maintain documentation templates
- Work with Manager to create document control procedures, including naming conventions, storage strategy, and review processes
- Enforce all document control procedures
- Review documentation for proper content, grammar, and format
- Coordinate proposal process in cooperation with Senior Vice President and other company personnel
- Coordinate content creation and insert into proposal documentation within time frames given
- Assist Manager of QA and QC with process-related documentation in support of process improvement initiatives
- Produce and maintain technical diagrams and graphics for documentation
- Lead experience in technical project and contracting environment
- 5+ years experience in all phases of document creation and maintenance
- 5+ years direct experience of all major project technical documentation: including project plans, requirements documents, design documents, test documentation, and user documentation
- Direct experience with a version control system and process
- Excellent English and grammar skills with knowledge of different style manual approaches
- Takes initiative and can work independently within parameters given
- Experience with proposal writing and processes
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office suite, Visio, OpenOffice, Windows, Linux and OS X
- Excellent Communication Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal skills-needed in working with customers and various levels of staff
- Ability to work at a detailed level while maintaining and retaining the 'big picture' of the overall business vision
- Ability to communicate effectively with both business and technical staff and convey complex ideas both verbally and in written form
- Presentation skills a plus
- Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- College Degree in related field
