Comprehensive test confirms Solera DS5100’s fast 8.1 Gbps sustained and 10Gbps burst packet capture and storage rates with zero loss of packets

Las Vegas, NV (Interop)—April 29, 2008

Solera Networks today announced that Miercom Communications Inc., an independent laboratory testing company, completed a “Miercom Performance Verified” test on the Solera Networks DS5100. The test validates Solera Networks’ claim of providing comprehensive and accurate network surveillance through real-time traffic capture and storage on today’s high-speed 10 gigabit networks. The full report can be accessed here.

During testing, the DS5100 achieved 8.1 Gbps sustained and 10Gbps burst data capture and storage with zero loss of packets. It proved to be an easy-to-use appliance, with a highly functional Web-based interface. “Miercom’s independent objectivity is well known in the industry. We were very pleased to see their tests confirmed our own results of the Solera DS5100,” said Steve Shillingford, CEO of Solera Networks. “This provides further validation that our unique design, based entirely in software, gives customers the best price performance and flexibility in the industry.”

The report stated, “We verified that the DS5100 was capable of capturing data at a faster rate than any other product we have seen in our lab.” The report also indicated “few, if any, other products on the market can record all packets to storage for analysis and playback within 1 ms of capture. The DS5100’s capabilities allow for the creation of a comprehensive record of network traffic (including headers and payload).”

Highlights from the Solera Networks DS5100 test include:
– The DS5100 attained a sustained throughput of 8.1 Gbps with no packet loss

– The appliance was able to handle 10Gbps bursts of traffic without packet loss

– Filtering of captured data is enabled through an easy-to-use, Web-based graphical interface

– The appliance can replay captured data for analysis and security event remediation

“Complete network visibility requires access to a complete record of all information that crosses the network.” said Bojan Simic, analyst, Network Management Research from Aberdeen Group. “High-speed packet capture capabilities help enable organizations to take control over their networks and achieve their network management and security goals.”

Solera Networks will be showcasing their DS line of deep packet capture and storage solutions at Interop Las Vegas in booth 1971.

DeepSee™ – The World’s First Search Engine for Packet and Payload Data-in-Motion

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Solera DeepSee provides intuitive interface to search network traffic, allowing both IT and Business users to search the contents of their internal enterprise networks. Gaining complete visibility of data-in-motion is now as easy as searching the web.

Las Vegas, NV (Interop)—April 29, 2008

Solera Networks today announced the release of the beta version of Solera DeepSee, which provides the unprecedented ability for IT or business executives to search, locate and reconstruct specific network traffic in an intuitive, web-like search format. DeepSee is deployed in conjunction with Solera Networks’ DS appliances, which provide complete network visibility for both virtual and physical networks through software-based packet capture and stream-to-storage technology.

“Network security has become a chief concern for more than just the IT staff. It is now a bottom-line business concern, whether the threat is internal or external to the organization,” said Steve Shillingford, CEO of Solera Networks. “In addition, organizations are facing evolving compliance mandates requiring them to save more data, including data-in-motion. With a ‘Google™-like’ interface, DeepSee gives authorized IT and business professionals quick and easy search capabilities to discover and view artifacts of network traffic. These could include emails, key documents, IM dialogues, file transfers, VoIP calls, or any other packet-based network communication. This can be accomplished using DeepSee without the user having any knowledge of networking protocols, packet analysis toolsets, or forensics expertise.”

Solera DeepSee is used in conjunction with Solera Networks DS Appliances that capture and store all network traffic, whether virtualized or physical, even on the fastest 10Gbps networks.

Solera DeepSee enables organizations to:
– Execute web-style queries, searching by keywords, user, type of traffic, type of attachment, IP or MAC address, and many other variables

– Search network traffic for the existence of the most common enterprise file formats

– Obtain visibility into key network-based traffic for legal, HR, and other business professionals without requiring networking expertise

– Monitor and keep a record of all data-in-motion inside the enterprise

“With the increasing growth in network traffic and network speeds, solutions that help organizations intuitively search through the mass of data to get to the root cause of a network problem, security breach or policy violation will be in high demand,” said Robert Ayoub, Industry Manager – Network Security for Frost & Sullivan. “Full network visibility is key to addressing network security issues.”

The intuitive DeepSee interface is designed for users of any technical level to uncover the information they need, yet is powerful enough to benefit the most seasoned forensics professionals. Once an item is found, results are displayed in easy-to-understand result sets, allowing users to make selections and view the results displayed in their original formats. For example, emails are reconstructed to appear as emails, instant message (IM) messages are rendered as IM conversations and PDFs are reconstructed as PDFs.

The company will be showcasing Solera DeepSee at Interop Las Vegas, booth 1971. For more information, visit http://www.soleranetworks.com/products/deep-see-forensics-suite.
