Product Provides Complete Visibility of Data in Motion for Network Security, Compliance, and Performance Management

Lindon, UT (Marketwire)—June 3, 2008

Solera Networks, Inc. today announced that its flagship product was honored as a winner of the 6th Annual Utah Innovation Awards. The company was selected for innovation in the enterprise and business-to-business software category for its DS Series™ packet capture appliance, which captures an unabridged record of all network traffic across all network environments, from virtual deployments up to today’s fastest network speeds of 10 Gbps.

The Awards selection committee of almost sixty experts from Utah’s business, government and academic communities conducted a rigorous evaluation process. Innovations were selected based on utility within their target market, originality and potential for competition.

“Solera Networks stood out for its unique approach to capturing and recording data in motion across all network environments,” said Richard Nelson, Utah Technology Council President and CEO. “The committee felt that Solera Networks’ product would take network security and performance to a new level, and that Solera Networks’ approach will spawn market innovation around the use and analysis of this newly available data.”

Solera DS Series packet capture appliances achieve unmatched performance and flexibility through the company’s unique software-based, deep packet capture and stream-to-storage technology, providing complete visibility into all network activity across virtual and physical network environments. The DS Series appliances capture, archive, filter and regenerate all network traffic data and store it in an infinitely scalable caching and storage system that integrates seamlessly with existing network infrastructures. Solera Networks’ products allow any authorized individual to locate and reconstruct any conversation, communication, or network artifact (such as a document, email, IM, spreadsheet, etc.) from within the captured network traffic.

“Solera Networks is honored to be among the recipients of this year’s Innovation Awards,” said Steve Shillingford, president and CEO, Solera Networks. “Our high-speed deep packet capture technology for data in motion is unprecedented. Our customers tell us that our products are helping to make complete network surveillance an IT best practice, reshaping the way organizations manage network security, performance and compliance.”

ISP Planet – Solera Says CALEA Equipment Can Do More

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Yes, it’s a surveillance system. It’s mandated by law. Some companies are still telling ISPs that it costs $100,000 or more to comply with CALEA, but the average ISP can pay a lot less. Open source solutions are available, based on OpenCALEA, and even ATIS-based solutions can be cheaper.

Some ISPs don’t want to spend any money at all. If you’re going to get either one or zero subpoenas each year, any price is too high. Even the outsourced solution allowed by the CALEA law, Trusted Third Parties (TTPs), can be expensive. Neustar charges at least $10,000 per year but is working with associations such as the National Rural Telephone Cooperative (NRTC) to provide cheaper service.

Network World – Rewind and replay what happens on your network

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By Linda Musthaler, Network World, 07/16/07

Have you ever wished for the ability to press a rewind button to back up to a specific point in time to review exactly what was happening on your network at that moment? Maybe there was some sort of major drag on performance around 2:15 last Tuesday afternoon, and you need to diagnose precisely what caused it. Or perhaps you suspect an employee of improperly sending proprietary data outside the firewall a month ago, and you need to confirm your suspicions by viewing the exact network traffic that user generated way back then.

If only there was a device like TiVo for your network. Then you could look back and see it all exactly as it happened.

If you can relate to the TiVo analogy, then you understand what Solera Networks offers.

Solera Networks Calea Appliance Featured In ISP-Planet

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

“…Haas says he realized that there would be real demand for a CALEA device at the ISS trade show in December, 2006, where CALEA was a theme (track 3). The idea was to build a box that ISPs of all sizes could afford. Trusted Third Parties (TTPs) seemed to be setting the price of their services at $10,000 or more, so Haas felt that $10,000 was the price to compete with.”

How to Tivo Your IP Traffic

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Tivo changed the way we watch TV. Just like you record your favorite 24 episode, Solera Networks offers network security for enterprises and governments that captures and replays an organization’s network traffic. Steve Shillingford, vice president of worldwide sales, speaks with Brad Baldwin about how customers are using Solera Networks’ software and network appliance to capture and store IP traffic at up to 4.3 gigabits per second.

Since all network traffic is recorded, it’s easy for the IT staff to review exactly what passed through specific ports, or to reconstruct a specific user’s browser session. With the Solera solution, the answer to why the network was slow between 2:00 and 4:00 PM yesterday can be scientific instead of guesswork. Compliance managers, universities, and governments can ensure that policies are followed and that intellectual assets and intelligence are preserved. Built on a 100-percent open architecture, any available commercial, open source, or customized software can be used to review data. Solera also offers tools and an API for any third party or individual to create custom tools for monitoring and review.

Newly backed by Canopy Ventures, Solera Networks takes a new infusion of cash to get the news out about their customer-proven offering.

Network Forensics Leader Poised for New Growth with Venture Fund Support

Canopy Ventures announced today that it has made a $3.9 million Series B Preferred Stock investment in Solera Networks of Lindon, Utah. This is the first investment led by Canopy Ventures’ new management team, and the first investment outside of Canopy’s current portfolio in two years.

Solera Networks provides network monitoring solutions that collect and store massive amounts of network data for mission-critical performance analysis and forensics. With storage of up to 128 terabytes, Solera’s network appliances can store several weeks’ worth of detailed information about every packet transmitted in, out or across a large, high-speed network. The company markets its products primarily to the Network Management and Network Security Markets.

“We are very pleased to have partnered with Solera Networks,” said Ron Heinz, Managing Director of Canopy Ventures. “They have produced innovative technology in an extremely attractive market, and are poised for significant growth. This infusion of capital will allow Solera to accelerate product awareness and enhance an already compelling product line.”

“I have been fortunate to enjoy a longstanding relationship with Canopy,” said Bryan Sparks, President and Chairman of Solera Networks. “When Ron and I began our discussions, we felt this was a perfect fit. We have developed a superb product and proven it with some highly sophisticated customers, and now is the time to start growing sales more rapidly. Canopy’s investment will help make that happen.”

Canopy Ventures has played a key role in the development of major technology success stories including Altiris, MyFamily.com and Helius. Last month, Canopy announced the acquisition of MaxStream, one of its portfolio companies, by Digi International in a $38.5 million transaction.
