Partnership will offer 10Gbps network forensics solution to key market

Tokyo Japan — August 17, 2009 – Solera Networks, the leading provider of high performance network
forensics products and services announced today that Network Value Components, Inc. (NVC), the leading network integrator in Japan and Solera Networks Japan, Inc. has signed a sales distribution agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, NVC will sell Solera Networks network forensics products along with its Deep Packet Inspection solutions in Japan.

With network threats ever increasing, it is inevitable that organizations will have to make new investments to better prepare for emerging threats and continuous changes in technology. There are many solutions that attempt to protect against every threat; however, there is no perfect answer.

Some organizations try to address this by locating a forensics solution that is protocol and system independent that provides lossless data capture and complete searching. However, until now the market has not delivered a forensics device that can meet the demands of today’s high-speed networks. Solera Networks delivers a real network forensics solution that can be implemented in any 10Gb network environment for complete capture, indexing, search and replay of any network event.

“Network Forensics is a fast growing market, as many security professionals now recognize that identifying the true scope of a breach results in swift remediation and mitigation of further risk,” said Steve Shillingford, CEO of Solera Networks. “We actively seek partnerships with organizations that understand the value of network forensics, can help educate the market, and are able to deliver real solutions. NVC is one of those partners.”

Susumu Watanabe, President of NVC also said, “We have many customers seeking high-speed network forensics solutions to get to the root cause of security events. Previously, we were unable to deliver a solution that met their demands for 10Gbps capture and easy access to network traffic, once captured. With Solera Networks, we now have that solution.”

“Solera Networks Japan has had success with many organizations that recognize the unique benefits of Solera Networks high-speed network forensics solutions,” said Fumiya Minagawa, President of Solera Networks Japan. “NVC is a recognized leader in delivering network solutions and this partnership will help accelerate future growth.”

Network Forensics Leader Joins Network Products Guide’s Winners Circle for 2009; Need for Network Forensics Underscored by Conficker

LINDON, UT – March 31, 2009

Solera Networks, a provider of innovative network forensics software and search appliances, today announced that it has been named a 2009 Hot Company by Network Products Guide, a leading technology solutions publication. The company’s president and CEO Steve Shillingford presented last week at the awards ceremony and 2009 Technosium World Executive Alliance Summit in San Francisco to an audience of industry and end-user executives, including Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs).

Solera Networks stood out from among the pool of applicants – a group that included established, international players of all sizes and industries – in particular, because of its accomplishments in the burgeoning field of network forensics. Solera Networks’ innovative set of network capture, search and regeneration technology fill a conspicuous gap in the current security tools landscape by addressing the often-overlooked incident response element of information assurance. Additionally, the company’s experienced executives, strategic product positioning, and standout revenue growth helped to secure the award.

The need for network forensics has never been more urgent, given the increasingly insidious nature and frequency of threats. As the most recently publicized threat from GhostNet cyber espionage and the purveyors of Conficker demonstrate, despite our best efforts as an industry, there will always be instances where predetermination and prevention isn’t possible. In these cases, the focus must turn to incident response where network forensics is key. Determining the scope of the damage, followed by remediation and fortification is where network forensics and Solera Networks’ solutions are self-evidently crucial.

While most companies have a host of threat deterrents-including firewalls, anti-virus, IPS, SIEM, or DLP platforms—these tools can only protect against known threats, leaving systems and networks vulnerable to malware like Conficker, which had not been seen until recently. That is why these tools fail to report on a breach 96 percent of the time, according to research conducted by the 2008 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report. The Solera Networks DS Series solutions help companies replay network traffic when an anomaly is detected and provide precise visibility into where and when a breach occurred and how it affected connected systems. Using the unique Negative Day Threat Detection™ capability, companies can go back in time, identify, remediate, and fortify the network more quickly and effectively; reducing the work by valuable IT resources and mitigating further risk and exposure. Only the Solera Networks DS Series solutions can capture and replay network traffic on today’s fastest physical and virtual networks.

“This award further solidifies Solera Networks’ distinction as a leading innovator in the emerging field of network forensics,” said Shillingford. “We are grateful for this recognition and look forward to helping organizations of all sizes improve their overall security posture with the effective use of this technology.”

Solera Networks Offers OEM Version of Network Traffic Capture Technology

Solera Networks Capture Stack™ provides unlimited context to network security and compliance toolsets through simplified software stack optimized for OEMs

NEW YORK, NY (Interop)—September 17, 2008 – Solera Networks, a provider of innovative network forensics software and search appliances, today announced the Solera Networks Capture Stack, the company’s core, award-winning capture technology, is now available to network security and monitoring tool OEMs for immediate use. In addition, the company announced that several OEMs are already integrating the technology. The Capture Stack allows anyone to integrate context and time into their existing network management and security products. As many early adopters have realized, all existing toolsets fail at anticipating the unknown event that poses a performance or security threat. When context is paired with these tools, they comprise a powerful and often, failsafe, solution for protecting corporate networks. With Solera Networks’ software-based solution, this integration is now a reality for the enterprise. The combined solutions offer the most comprehensive network forensics solution on the marketplace today.

As the only software-based network forensics platform capable of working in both virtual and physical networks at unmatched speeds, Solera Networks is unique in its ability to offer an OEM version of its technology in software form. Only the Solera Networks Capture Stack provides unlimited portability and integration with other networking and security tools, such as firewalls, UTM, IDS/IPS, DLP, SIEM, switches, or log analyzers. The stack can be deployed as a dedicated appliance tuned for capturing at full line-rate on 10Gb networks, or on readily available server hardware, or as a virtual appliance.

“This is a logical step for Solera Networks and this market,” said Steve Shillingford, CEO of Solera Networks. “We want to give every network a fail-proof memory that will help them quickly get to the root cause of a problem. What we don’t talk enough about in our industry is protection from the unknown. We see this as a simple problem solved. Similar to the layered security approach we see in our physical world, having an ‘always-on’ monitoring tool that is invisible to detection, capable of storing event histories, making that history as easy to search as using Google™, and replaying any event of interest is just good practice. And since our technology is not restricted to hardware deployments, we are unique in our ability to make this available to the rest of the industry. Fortunately, we have seen several early adopters who get it.”

End customers will gain the ability to access the actual, high-speed network traffic that occurred around the time of a network alarm, which gives greater context to the alert and allows for reduced mean-time-to-resolution (MTTR) forensic analysis and identification of the real threat or vulnerability, not just symptoms of an event or correlated analysis. The amount of network traffic captured by the Capture Stack can scale to accommodate any capture and storage need. Companies that are implementing Solera Networks capture technology into their solutions, include:

Exact Solutions – Incorporates lossless capture into iReplay™, the first full-scale SQL Workload Capture & Replay solution for all major databases. With iReplay, organizations can accurately test changes by re-creating their actual production workloads, effectively eliminating the gap between simulated tests and real-world conditions. (www.exact-solutions.com)

Inspekt Security™ – the cloud-based SIEM company – includes Inspekt Network Replay, which automatically provides a PCAP file of network traffic before and after their InspektOne™ SEIM solution generates an event alert, adding context to alerts for comprehensive forensic analysis. (www.inspektsecurity.com)

LogIT – Japanese-based provider of monitoring, IDS, and email forensics analysis solution now provides full context to any generated alert using deep packet capture, enabling in-depth interrogation and discovery. (www.logit.co.jp)

Additionally, Solera Networks and Cymphonix™ are working to extend forensic capabilities to the Cymphonix Network Composer™, as well to leverage Cymphonix’s extensive deep packet scanning intelligence into Solera Networks’ packet classification index. (www.cymphonix.com)

Solera Networks is working with OEMs in a variety of ways to integrate the solution, including full integration, bundling arrangements and the offering of the technology as a virtual appliance or an add-on. Interested OEMs should contact Solera Networks at 877-5SOLERA, 801 623-5705, or info@soleranetworks.com.
