Solera Networks’ CTO Joe Levy to Speak at ISS World Americas Conference 2008 on Enabling Negative Day Threat Detection

LINDON, UT —November 19, 2008 - Solera Networks, a provider of innovative network forensics software and search appliances, today announced that the company’s CTO, Joe Levy, will speak at the ISS World Americas Conference 2008 in Washington, DC. ISS World covers intelligence support systems for lawful interception, criminal investigations, and intelligence gathering. It is the world’s largest such meeting of North and Latin American telecom operators, law enforcement personnel, and intelligence and Homeland Security analysts.

Levy’s presentation, “Which Would You Prefer: A Myopic Witness’ Testimony, Or A Full Digital Recording Of The Scene Of The Crime?,” takes place December 9th from 4:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. He will detail the need for negative day threat detection - the identification of malware that entered the network undetected before a patch or signature file was applied - through complete network traffic capture. He will also discuss how to acquire and process the most complete and thorough information from a digital crime scene.

Levy will help attendees understand that when a security incident happens, incident response and analysis should not depend on evidence gathered by the security solutions- because the shortcomings of that evidence are what permitted the incident to occur in the first place. Looking at metadata from logs and audit trails will only provide superficial evidence. Security professionals need the ability to capture, record, and replay every unabridged network event to quickly understand the cause of a security incident. Historical traffic analysis takes the place of spending days, weeks, or months concentrating on the “information about the information,” the typical path taken today.
