Company’s DS Series™ Appliances and DeepSee™ Software Take Network Visibility, Security And Performance To A New Level – World’s First Search Engine For Data In Motion

Lindon, Utah, July 2, 2008 – Solera Networks today announced it has been selected by Everything Channel as a CRN Emerging Tech vendor and named as one of the “25 Coolest Emerging Vendors”. Companies are honored by CRN based on a combination of innovative products and a robust commitment to the channel. CRN’s Emerging Tech list recognizes companies that are delivering high margins for solution providers through pioneering and easy-to-use technology not offered by the industry giants.

Solera Networks is increasingly gaining recognition for its innovative new solutions that provide network visibility for network security and network systems management. With the ever-increasing amount of data moving through networks of physical systems and virtualized environments, Solera Networks’ products provide complete visibility for all ‘data in motion.’

The Solera DS Series™ appliances capture an unabridged record of all network traffic across all networking environments, from physical to virtual, at speeds up to 10 Gbps. Additionally, Solera DeepSee™ is the first search engine for data in motion that provides both IT personnel and business executives the ability to search, locate, and reconstruct specific network traffic in an intuitive, web-like search format. DeepSee is deployed in conjunction with Solera DS Series appliances to provide complete network visibility; enabling customers to actively search all network traffic and quickly resolve security, management and compliance issues.

CRN noted that its annual list of Emerging Tech Vendors have their finger on the pulse of what customers want and they are able to deliver it faster, better and cheaper than most of the industry giants. Solera Networks was singled out for its innovations around the convergence of network security and systems management.

“New and innovative vendor partners can help spur profitable ideas that solution providers can use to build revenue and customer loyalty,” said Robert C. Demarzo, senior vice president and editorial director, Everything Channel. “The CRN Emerging Tech list is where solution providers go to find these promising new vendors.”

Vendors who make the list must have an established solution provider program and formal guidelines for recruiting channel partners. They must demonstrate that its direct sales mix is trending down as evidenced by the company’s revenue history, a channel positive or channel neutral strategy for internal sales compensation, and not be a dominant market share player. Final selection to the Emerging Technology list was made at the discretion of the CRN editorial team after a review of the submitted information and conversations with current or targeted partners.

Solera Networks has a growing global network of value added resellers and distributors. The company works with channel partners to deliver data network visibility solutions to businesses of all sizes. For more information on becoming a Solera Networks partner, visit: www.soleranetworks.com/partners.

“Solera Networks is honored to be among CRN’s Top 25 Coolest Emerging Vendors,” said Steve Shillingford, President and CEO, Solera Networks. “This further validates our focus of helping organizations secure and manage the critical business data that is constantly moving through their networks. Our network visibility solutions continue to attract significant industry attention, a trend which is quickly being validated by our partners and their customers.”

Comprehensive test confirms Solera DS5100’s fast 8.1 Gbps sustained and 10Gbps burst packet capture and storage rates with zero loss of packets

Las Vegas, NV (Interop)—April 29, 2008

Solera Networks today announced that Miercom Communications Inc., an independent laboratory testing company, completed a “Miercom Performance Verified” test on the Solera Networks DS5100. The test validates Solera Networks’ claim of providing comprehensive and accurate network surveillance through real-time traffic capture and storage on today’s high-speed 10 gigabit networks. The full report can be accessed at www.soleranetworks.com/miercom/.

During testing, the DS5100 achieved 8.1 Gbps sustained and 10Gbps burst data capture and storage with zero loss of packets. It proved to be an easy-to-use appliance, with a highly functional Web-based interface. “Miercom’s independent objectivity is well known in the industry. We were very pleased to see their tests confirmed our own results of the Solera DS5100,” said Steve Shillingford, CEO of Solera Networks. “This provides further validation that our unique design, based entirely in software, gives customers the best price performance and flexibility in the industry.”

The report stated, “We verified that the DS5100 was capable of capturing data at a faster rate than any other product we have seen in our lab.” The report also indicated “few, if any, other products on the market can record all packets to storage for analysis and playback within 1 ms of capture. The DS5100’s capabilities allow for the creation of a comprehensive record of network traffic (including headers and payload).”

Highlights from the Solera Networks DS5100 test include:
  - The DS5100 attained a sustained throughput of 8.1 Gbps with no packet loss

  - The appliance was able to handle 10Gbps bursts of traffic without packet loss

  - Filtering of captured data is enabled through an easy-to-use, Web-based graphical interface

  - The appliance can replay captured data for analysis and security event remediation

“Complete network visibility requires access to a complete record of all information that crosses the network.” said Bojan Simic, analyst, Network Management Research from Aberdeen Group. “High-speed packet capture capabilities help enable organizations to take control over their networks and achieve their network management and security goals.”

Solera DeepSee provides intuitive interface to search network traffic, allowing both IT and Business users to search the contents of their internal enterprise networks. Gaining complete visibility of data-in-motion is now as easy as searching the web.

Las Vegas, NV (Interop)—April 29, 2008

Solera Networks today announced the release of the beta version of Solera DeepSee, which provides the unprecedented ability for IT or business executives to search, locate and reconstruct specific network traffic in an intuitive, web-like search format. DeepSee is deployed in conjunction with Solera Networks’ DS appliances, which provide complete network visibility for both virtual and physical networks through software-based packet capture and stream-to-storage technology.

“Network security has become a chief concern for more than just the IT staff. It is now a bottom-line business concern, whether the threat is internal or external to the organization,” said Steve Shillingford, CEO of Solera Networks. “In addition, organizations are facing evolving compliance mandates requiring them to save more data, including data-in-motion. With a ‘Google™-like’ interface, DeepSee gives authorized IT and business professionals quick and easy search capabilities to discover and view artifacts of network traffic. These could include emails, key documents, IM dialogues, file transfers, VoIP calls, or any other packet-based network communication. This can be accomplished using DeepSee without the user having any knowledge of networking protocols, packet analysis toolsets, or forensics expertise.”

Solera DeepSee is used in conjunction with Solera Networks DS Appliances that capture and store all network traffic, whether virtualized or physical, even on the fastest 10Gbps networks.

Solera DeepSee enables organizations to:
  - Execute web-style queries, searching by keywords, user, type of traffic, type of attachment, IP or MAC address, and many other variables

  - Search network traffic for the existence of the most common enterprise file formats

  - Obtain visibility into key network-based traffic for legal, HR, and other business professionals without requiring networking expertise

  - Monitor and keep a record of all data-in-motion inside the enterprise

“With the increasing growth in network traffic and network speeds, solutions that help organizations intuitively search through the mass of data to get to the root cause of a network problem, security breach or policy violation will be in high demand,” said Robert Ayoub, Industry Manager – Network Security for Frost & Sullivan. “Full network visibility is key to addressing network security issues.”

The intuitive DeepSee interface is designed for users of any technical level to uncover the information they need, yet is powerful enough to benefit the most seasoned forensics professionals. Once an item is found, results are displayed in easy-to-understand result sets, allowing users to make selections and view the results displayed in their original formats. For example, emails are reconstructed to appear as emails, instant message (IM) messages are rendered as IM conversations and PDFs are reconstructed as PDFs.

The company will be showcasing Solera DeepSee at Interop Las Vegas, booth 1971. For more information, visit www.soleranetworks.com/products/deepsee.php.

Virtual regeneration tap allows organizations to leverage existing physical network security infrastructure to monitor and secure virtual network activity. Available as a free download.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – April. 8, 2008 – Solera Networks, the leader in open platform deep packet capture and stream-to-storage appliances, announced today the availability of its beta version of the free Solera V2P Tap™, expanding the company’s initiative toward enabling complete network visibility. Using the Solera V2P Tap, organizations deploying virtual machines can now leverage their existing investments in network management and security tools by regenerating virtual network traffic, including intra-server virtual machine network traffic, to their existing physical security infrastructure to monitor and protect virtual network activity, creating significant cost savings and efficiencies.

For many organizations, monitoring and securing the virtual environment means an additional investment to deploy security tools and processes in the virtual network—the same tools they already have in the physical environment. The Solera V2P Tap sits passively in a virtual environment leveraging VMware™ Vswitch technology, capturing all network traffic from within the virtual environment and regenerating all or some of that traffic in real-time to the physical environment for monitoring and analysis by existing tools.

“Having comprehensive network visibility is key to maintaining a secure network,” said Steve Shillingford, Solera Networks CEO. “Most organizations have invested significantly in their security and monitoring tools. Purchasing the same tools for their virtual environment is expensive and redundant. Having the only virtual appliance for capture and storage allowed us to offer this solution free of charge to organizations not interested in redundant expenses.”

The Solera V2P Tap allows organizations to utilize their existing intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), as well as other standard security tools to analyze traffic between virtual machines. While originating from the virtual infrastructure, traffic that is regenerated to these security systems appears as any other network traffic and can therefore be analyzed using the same procedures. The virtual tap also runs very efficiently, with minimal CPU utilization. This is particularly important in virtual environments where the objective is to get the most out of processor capacity and minimize hardware cost.

“Virtual security is as important as real security,” said Joe Levy, CTO of network security vendor, SonicWALL. “Until now, virtualization security required redundant expenses and resource utilization. Solera V2P Tap bridges the gap between the virtual and physical network, allowing administrators to use their existing purpose-built inspection platforms within the virtual network. Solera Networks is uniquely positioned to bring such capture and regeneration technologies to market. It’s a welcome efficiency for the industry.”

The free download of the Solera V2P Tap is now available in beta for evaluation. After completion of the beta, the download will continue to be available for free.

SHARKFEST

LINDON, Utah–(February 20, 2008)–Solera Networks, the leader in open platform deep packet capture and stream-to-storage appliances, is co-sponsoring SHARKFEST, the first annual Wireshark community conference. The conference will be held March 31 through April 2 in Los Altos Hills, California. Paal Tveit, VP of Engineering for Solera Networks, will present a session entitled “The Virtues of Deep Packet Capture and Stream-to-Storage.”

Hosted by CACE Technologies and Wireshark University, the SHARKFEST conference goal is to provide an informational, educational and social venue for core Wireshark developers, as well as the widespread and diverse user community. Three tracks will be held over three days of training with discussions on network analysis, troubleshooting, security, Wireshark development, communications dissection and much more. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Gerald Combs (Mr. Ethereal/Wireshark), brain-dump with fellow Wireshark Developers, as well as attend Wireshark University training sessions with Laura Chappell and various networking industry consultants.

“SHARKFEST is a dream come true for me,” said Gerald Combs, Wireshark creator and Director of Open Source Projects at CACE Technologies. “Finally, the global community that has formed around Wireshark over the past 10 years will meet face to face and share their considerable experience with network analysis and management. These core developers are an incredibly diverse and talented group that work together in an extremely efficient manner to move the project forward in relevant and very interesting ways.”

“Wireshark is one of the most powerful open source tools for network traffic analysis,” said Paal Tveit, VP of Engineering for Solera Networks. “Solera Networks products are designed to capture a complete historical record of network traffic, and then allow network administrators to use the tools of their choice to analyze that traffic. When coupled with Solera Networks appliances, Wireshark can analyze a complete record of network traffic, including points of time in the past. We are pleased to be a sponsor of SHARKFEST, as it is a tremendous validation for Wireshark from the IT community.”

Organizations enhance network health and performance, avoid business disruption and optimize IT investments by monitoring and analyzing network behavior and performance

CIOs, Network administrators and those responsible for network security are recognizing it is more critical than ever to gain true network visibility, according to a new research report from Aberdeen Group titled, “The Real Value of Network Visibility,” sponsored by Solera Networks. The report serves as a roadmap for organizations that are striving to secure and manage their networks by improving network visibility. The report’s findings show that improving network visibility (particularly network activity and behavior) enables organizations to prevent application performance issues, decrease network management and operation costs, and optimize networks for new technology rollouts that support future business growth.

“Senior management is finally realizing that network administrators need help. Managing enterprise infrastructure and planning changes to the network design are becoming part of overall enterprise strategies,” said Bojan Simic, Research Analyst of Aberdeen Group. “As organizations are adopting VoIP, video and other bandwidth-intensive applications, achieving full visibility into network and application performance is more important than ever before.”

Aberdeen’s research shows that 93 percent of organizations need more visibility into, and control over, the performance of their networks. As more companies migrate to 10 Gigabit networks, realizing a reasonable return on investment for that transition is very difficult without being able to see and monitor all network traffic, particularly in managing network performance and achieving network security.

“Solera Networks has long realized the importance of network visibility, and has developed solutions to capture network traffic and then stream that traffic to long-term or short-term storage at full 10Gbps line rates, allowing absolute visibility into the network,” said Steve Shillingford, CEO of Solera Networks. “This research confirms our view that as network complexity increases, the need for visibility and control increases exponentially.”

Aberdeen’s research report revealed that 87 percent of organizations reported that managing their networks has become increasingly complex over the last two years. Deeper network visibility helps organizations better leverage existing resources and more accurately identify additional resource needs in order to ensure optimal levels of network and application performance.

The Aberdeen report shows that best practices for network visibility include:

• Developing capabilities for identifying the source of a delay in application response time
• Leveraging network flow data to achieve network visibility
• Developing the ability to simulate realistic network performance in a lab environment

Aberdeen’s study examined the use, experiences and intentions of more than 200 enterprise organizations using network monitoring, network analytics and traffic simulation technologies in a diverse set of enterprises.

About Solera Networks

Solera Networks is the price-performance leader in lossless deep packet capture and stream-to-storage technology. Solera Networks’ DS Series is a line of high-performance appliances, including software-only virtual appliances, which capture, record, and archive 100% of network traffic at speeds up to 10Gbps. Captured traffic is written to a scalable, disk-based cache system and presented in multiple industry-standard formats, including PCAP, as a virtual network interface, or as regenerated network traffic. The captured data is then accessible instantly via Solera Networks’ own search, alert and archive interface, or via any standards-based security, forensics, compliance, analytics or network management application. Those applications can then perform their analysis on either live or stored data, at live, throttled or accelerated playback speeds, using sophisticated filters based on source/destination, protocol, time period and other variables, all without affecting the production network’s performance.
