DataEcho
DataEcho is an open source Windows application that reconstructs web and email activity for compliance and security management, sponsored by Solera Networks.
A major university uses DataEcho by first identifying a potential problem or concern. Once the "red flag" has been raised, they identify what they are specifically seeking. For example, graphics, phone calls, policy violations, etc. This enables them to begin their reconstruction session identifying the target IP address or file header type.
They save the data they'll be searching so that DataEcho is sifting through locally stored files. Knowing the general problem they are reconstructing enables them to quickly hone in on the specific session and data types and to view the actual data of concern in its native format.
DataEcho works well with other forensic analysis tools like Sniffer™, or Wire Shark (formerly known as Ethereal). Used in conjunction with these other applications, DataEcho enables you to piece together and effectively reconstruct the original course of events in a user friendly format.
DataEcho is capable of numerous uses, scenarios, and deployments. The above represents only one highly successful implementation.
