Solera V2P Tap™
Most organizations today have already invested substantial time, money, and training for solutions that monitor their network's security and performance at the physical level. However, these solutions, such as firewalls, network intrusion detection and prevention devices, virus scanning, and data loss prevention tools, have been unable to provide the same functionality in a virtualized environment because of their inability to monitor network traffic between virtual servers inside physical servers. This has led to the need for another, parallel investment in time, energy and money into "virtual" versions of all of these security devices and processes—until now.
The Solera V2P Tap™ allows organizations to leverage their existing physical environment security and analysis tools to protect their virtual environment at the same time, using the same familiar tools they use in the physical environment.
The Solera V2P Tap allows organizations to utilize their existing intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), as well as other standard security tools to analyze network traffic between virtual machines. While originating from the virtual infrastructure, traffic that is regenerated to these security systems appears as any other network traffic and can therefore be analyzed using the same procedures. The virtual tap also runs very efficiently, with minimal CPU utilization. This is particularly important in virtual environments where the objective is to get the most out of processor capacity and minimize hardware cost.
